Patient's Guide™ to Rosacea
|
The Patient's Guide™ to Rosacea is made up of a medical advisory board and an editorial board that claims on its website that this online publication is the "most respected online publication providing information about rosacea, its management and treatment, and its symptoms. Our mission is to provide you, our reader, with unbiased, scientifically accurate information about rosacea, its causes and symptoms, as well as potential treatments. The information published on RosaceaTreatment.org is written and provided by some of America's foremost dermatologists and laser surgery experts."
The medical advisory board is made up of some very prestigous names in dermatology.
The link to "What Causes Rosacea?" reveals an article answering this question that has confounded many medical professionals and according to Dr. Eric F. Bernstein, Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Pennsylvania, the two major causes of rosacea are genetics and the sun. Even, though Dr. Bernstein qualifies this with "in my opinion" no one has ever been as dogmatic about the cause of rosacea in any medical article that I have ever read and you can read the full article for yourself. No mention is made of the many other theories on the cause of rosacea which are found in most medical articles on what causes rosacea.
There are at least eleven theories* on the cause of rosacea that I know about and no doubt there may be others. While genetics and photo damage may be involved, there are no clinical studies to prove that all cases of rosacea are due to these two causes. Current clinical studies tend to show that inflammatory causes or immune system disorders may be involved.
*In my book, Rosacea 101, (published in October 2007) in Chapter 3, What Causes Rosacea?, page 13, I discuss the five most popular theories and in Appendix D Other Theories on the Cause of Rosacea, page 169, there are seven other theories discussed. My new book is a comprehensive basic rosacea 101 knowledge for rosacea newbies who want to learn about the conventional and alternative treatments for rosacea. |
